Silent W words
W is silent before R at the start of a word (write, wrong, wrist) and in a few one-off spellings like sword, answer and two. The WR spelling once marked a distinct rounded R sound that English lost by the 1600s. Listen for the word starting directly on R, identical to 'rite' and 'rong'.
