About

Learn Pronounce is a free tool that speaks any English word aloud in American, British and Australian English, with several male and female voices each — plus Indian and other accents when your own device provides them, so nothing is sent to a server.

A pronunciation tool that shows you every voice you actually have, and never pretends to have one you don't.

Type a word and hear it spoken in as many accents as are available to you, each with a male and a female voice. Tap any voice to hear that exact one, or use Play all to run through every accent in turn.

Where the voices come from

Your device
The voices already installed in your operating system. Free, instant, work offline, and nothing leaves your device. Always used first when available.
Natural synthesis
A neural text-to-speech model for American and British English, male and female. Close to a real recording.
Basic synthesis
A phonetic synthesiser covering regional accents the neural models don't have — RP, Scottish, Lancashire, West Midlands, New York and Caribbean. It sounds robotic, and the app says so rather than dressing it up.

What it will not do

If an accent isn't available, it says so and tells you how to install it. It never quietly swaps in a different accent and lets you believe you heard the one you asked for — which would be worse than useless when the whole point is learning how a word sounds.

Built with

The Web Speech API for device voices, Piper for natural synthesis, and espeak-ng for the regional accents. No third-party services and no accounts.
