Silent S words

Silent S is rare and almost always signals a French loanword (debris, corps, rendezvous) or a spelling that was tampered with by scholars, as in island, which never had an S until the 1500s. Aisle and isle are pronounced identically to 'I'll'. Treat this as a small memorised group.
