Silent H words
H is silent at the start of a handful of words borrowed from French (hour, honest, heir) and inside the pairs GH, RH and KH. Because these words begin with a vowel sound, they take 'an', not 'a': an hour, an honest answer. Listen for the smooth vowel onset with no breath before it.
